The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance. The ICRC also endeavours to prevent suffering by promoting and strengthening humanitarian law and universal humanitarian principles.
AGRONOMIST – Location in BARDA
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Understands the practices and techniques relating to the management of productive field cycles of most relevant crops in the geographical area of intervention, including soil fertilization and irrigation
- Applies standard improvement measures for productive field cycle of most relevant crops in lowland, midland and highland areas, including soil fertilization practices and irrigation techniques.
- Provides basic advisory services in relation to standard crop management and soil fertilisation practices.
- Trains local communities on crop management and improvement.
- Possesses and applies basic knowledge of plant genetics and GMO use implications.
- Works on providing a proper follow up and support to the communities benefiting of ICRC agro assistance.
- Represents ICRC in front of local agricultural government departments, or any other relevant stakeholder, when requested.
- Identifies appropriate interventions taking into account livelihood and/or agro based approaches and alternative livelihoods.
- Works closely with Engineering department in planning and implementation of projects.
- Travels frequently to the project sites to monitor the programs, verifies that the work is carried out and that the most vulnerable can participate.
Desired Profile and Skills:
- University degree in Agronomy, Rural Engineering, or similar fields.
- 3 years’ work experience in a similar field of activity , with at least 2 yrs in the humanitarian sector.
- Fluency in spoken and written Azerbaijani is required. Fluency in English or Russian is an added bonus,
- Good computer literacy,
- Good knowledge of the region,
- Good communication skills,
- Good rigor, method and analytical skills,
- Cultural awareness and commitment to encourage diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
